Watchbox Valley
TAUNGURUNG – MITCHELL SHIRE
Spanning 445 ha in the picturesque farmlands of Mitchell Shire, Victoria, the Watchbox Valley property has a recent history steeped in grazier farming. Prior to European settlement, the property was characterised by open grassy woodlands, canopied by Eucalypts and Sheoaks. During its time as a grazing property, almost all of the native woody vegetation has been cleared. Currently, the only trees that remain are a handful of Grey Box, Yellow Box, and River Red Gum Eucalypts. These old trees stand tall, but alone – an old-guard left to whisper the secrets of a forgotten landscape. Despite experiencing significant degradation in its plant communities and soil quality, the property is still home to the critically endangered Golden Sun Moth among many other threatened and special species. aTree is committed to maintaining this population and nurturing its persistence into the future.
Revegetation of this property will be closely curated to reflect its pre-settlement plant community. Across four vegetation types, there will be a range of native trees, shrubs, and understory species planted. Every $3 you donate to the Watchbox Valley project will deliver one, or a mixture of the following species:
